"Of course, you’ll still be able to use popular fan-hosted mod sites like Skyrim Nexus to find great mods to play. We did not change any functionality to exclude the way mods worked previously. We even added a few features to help out -- for instance, custom INI files can now be packaged into mods so you don't need to backup your INI files anymore."

Update: The Creation Kit is now available for download, including a free bonus release of Bethesda's official Hi-Res texture pack for the game.

The Hi-res texture pack for the game can be downloaded here, but do make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM installed on your PC, otherwise.. expect lots of crashes to desktop. The CK can be located in your Steam library under View > Tools > Creation Kit.

As an added bonus, Bethesda & Valve have released a familiar pal to join you on your adventures through Skyrim.
Steam said:
To celebrate the opening of the Steam Workshop for Skyrim, Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring you the Space Sphere mod, which'll let the aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel.
